How we test vacuums for pet-hair removal and general cleaning
We source real cat hair from a grooming company and embed it into carpet. We then assess how much is picked up after 10 passes with the standard brush head.
All vacuums are also tested for cleaning carpets and hard floors:
Carpet cleaning is tested by embedding a special sand into the carpet and weighing before and after to calculate what percentage has been removed.
Hard floor cleaning is tested with a variety of materials, such as cornflakes, potting mix and flour. We evaluate how much is picked up by the vacuum.
We also test:
how good vacuums are at cleaning into corners and edges
how easy they are to use
how long the batteries run for.
