We’ve seen a slight uptick in 2024 in overall customer satisfaction with insurance, except for health insurance, where satisfaction has dropped.
Two insurers are doing a stellar job for house, contents and car insurance, while banks are doing well for travel insurance. Overall satisfaction with life insurers is still mediocre.
There have also been legislative reforms in the insurance contracts space, creating a couple of new fishhooks for consumers to be aware of.
About our survey
Our survey took place online in October 2024 – 6,415 respondents made up of Consumer NZ members, supporters and a nationally representative sample of the public took part. Insurers named in our results are those mentioned in 30 responses or more.
Overall satisfaction shows the percentage of respondents who rated their insurer 8, 9 or 10 on a scale from 0 (very dissatisfied) to 10 (very satisfied).
We give our People’s Choice award to providers that rate above average for customer satisfaction and meet our other performance criteria. Learn more about People's Choice.
