Yeah, Nah Awards: The slow dry

There’s no hiding bad products when they go through the rigorous testing programme in our laboratory. We like to find the good stuff, and uncover the hidden, bargain-priced gems, but we’re always keeping an eye out for the products we think you should avoid too.

Our first-ever Yeah, Nah Awards highlight the worst of the worst in business to pressure poor-performing companies to up their game.

It’s reasonable to expect that a $2,000 heat-pump dryer from a reputable brand like Bosch will do an admirable job on your clothes. And granted, the Bosch WQG24200AU does dry your clothes, eventually. However, the problem we found wasn’t with the drying performance itself – it was the length of time the Bosch takes to do it.

Graphic of clothes dryer run times

It took nearly 4 hours for the Bosch WQG24200AU to dry our 3.5kg load of washing. That’s madness in our books. By comparison, other similarly priced heat-pump driers took just 110 minutes, so under half the time.

Our test team recommend avoiding this this dryer due to the ridiculous amount of time it takes, coining the phrase “life’s too short to dry your smalls at a glacial pace”.  We thought the problem went further (and longer) than that, awarding the Bosch WQG24200AU the Avoid At All Costs Award in our inaugural Yeah, Nah Awards.
